According to research by the World Health Organisation (WHO), vein diseases are one of the most common medical conditions worldwide. It has become a widespread malady which is often trivialized. In Germany alone, approx. 27 Mio. people exhibit abnormal physical leg vein conditions. Approx. 5 Mio. of them suffer from advanced chronic venous insufficiency which can lead to open leg wounds.
Varicose veins are one of the oldest documented diseases of mankind. The ancient physi-cians already attempted to gain a better understanding of the cause and development of varicose veins and open leg wounds. Unfortunately it is true that vein disease was neglected for a long time by research. The number of people suffering from this medical condition, often accompanied by severe side effects, is quite staggering. It has been established that alone in Germany approx. every 2nd woman and every 4th man suffer with chronic vein maladies.
The “Venenzentrum der Klinik am Zuckerberg” features the treatment of vein disease. Pa-tients with arterial obstructive disease, or a combination of both, are treated at the center as well. The treatment(s) is/are based on national and international vascular research, espe-cially conducted in Basel (Switzerland), Innsbruck (Austria), Paris (France) and Tuebingen (Germany). Their proven methods of treatment were refined at the “Venenzentrum Klinik am Zuckerberg” and combined with modern techniques, (i.e. some of them adapted from the la-ser department).
